Faith: The Ingredient to Success

Hey there my friend, hope your doing great and the favor is with you. :)

In the last post I stated that hope is where our dreams are created.  As we know now, hope is not a wish but a confident expectation of what is to come as it relates to our dreams and goals.

We also know that most people will give up on their dreams because they have seemingly failed and life has just beaten them down.  But not YOU.

You won't settle for mediocrity, because you have that rocky spirit!  You know what I'm talkin bout, eye of the tiger!

Today, I want to share with you a key ingredient you will need to reach your dreams in life or any goal you have for that matter.  Wether that may be to lose 50lbs, increase your health, change the way you look and feel, increase your financial situation, start a business, or whatever it may be, if you don't have this one thing your dreams will stay just that.  Just another dream that was stolen and never realized.

What if we all followed our dreams with reckless abandonment.  Now that would be a beautiful thing.  As long as those dreams are from the light and not darkness of course.

So what is this one thing?

FAITH

With faith mountains are moved, your dreams are realized, and your hopes have concrete substance.

Did you know that your using faith every day?  Faith is simply an agreement with something.  It can be applied positively or negatively.  When you allow current circumstances to dictate your life then you are using faith negatively.  This is because you are agreeing with the fact that nothing can change and your situation is just to difficult.

"Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see" Hebrews 11:1

As you will see, I use the Bible for my source of wisdom.  This life is temporary, but the author of that book is eternal.

Ill take eternal wisdom every time.

So if faith is confidence, we know that its not just some esoteric thing.  We know that whatever we have faith for will surely come to pass.  There is no maybes when it comes to faith.

I believe faith starts by what you are dominantly seeing in your spirit or imagination.  You will always receive what you perceive. Lets use my football career as an example of negative faith.  Before one of my high school games, I was sitting with my buddies talking about the upcoming game and how great we would do.  My position was on the offense as a running back, so I had the honor of scoring the touchdowns. :)  But this day one of my teammates planted a thought into my head, kind of like the movie "Inception", about fumbling the ball.   I gave an arrogant response about never fumbling the ball.  I then proceeding to think about how I was not going to fumble the ball that game.  As you may have guessed, I fumbled twice in that game.  BUMMER.

As I later came to understand, your mind doest know the difference between positive and negative, it just produces whatever it sees.  So my imagination was playing a movie of me fumbling the ball in my head, even though I was thinking about not doing it.  Funny right?  What I should have done was focus on all the awesome plays I was going to make.  I guarantee you the result would have been what I was focusing on.

Lets look at a fitness situation now.

Lets say you want to lose that 50 lbs. If you are constantly looking at yourself in the mirror and speaking things like "Im so fat," or "I won't ever be able to lose this weight" you are using faith or "agreement" to keep you right where you are at.

You may try to lose the weight and be slightly successful, but when adversity comes, or hard times come, you will give up right away.

Here comes the solution to this very problem:

"We live by faith, and not by sight." 2 corinthians 5:7

In our western culture, we take this as "oh it will all work out, don't worry about it."  It is interpreted as more of a blind faith.   But NO, as we have learned, faith is confidence and agreement with the TRUTH.  We do not live by "sight" because if you were to agree with what you see in your circumstances, nothing would ever change.  And that is a vicious cycle to be in. It is a victim mentality, always subject to what the world throws at you, never able to make a difference because you feel like a slave to your situation.

Im telling you, you must FREE YOUR MIND from this unbelief.  The only way to do that is with the truth.

Let me tell you, if you are one that lives by faith, people will think you are crazy, all the nay sayers will tell you that you are being foolish and that you need to come back down to reality.  Ill give you a solution for that problem as well.

STOP  HANGING with that person. If they can't support you and your desire to live by faith, then its most likely a relationship that needs changing or dumping.

I would highly recommend that you spend your precious time with people that encourage you, support you, love you, and genuinely want to see you succeed.  It is hard to find but not impossible.

This is why we pray and meditate.  When we spend time with the God of this universe, how can you not be transformed?

Im not talking about getting your "church" in on Sundays so you feel like a "good" person.

Im talking about a real relationship where you speak to Him and He speaks to you.  This culture has once again made spirituality to be hocus pocus fairy tail stuff. Its CRAZY.  Why is it so hard to believe that the God that sent His only son to die just for YOU, wants to talk to you?  Beats me...

When your in relationship with someone, your going to take on their characteristics.  So you bet that my number one priority is to seek the Lord.  My life depends on it.  You may feel that your not good enough or that you would have to stop having fun in order to have a relationship with God.  But nothing is further than the truth.  He is the pathway to success in this life and the next.

Ok back on track...

When someone with faith speaks, it will evoke two different responses: 1. You will be inspired and encourage or 2. You will be mad at that person and think he is an idiot.  Most people don't want their boat rocked.  And if your doing something with your life, you can be rest assured things will be shaking.  So just know that not everyone is going to embrace you and your destiny.

If you really believe in your heart this next statement, you are truly golden.

"And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him."  Hebrews 11:6

Just think about that, He wants to actually reward you for your faith. It's kind of contrary to what most want you to believe, they think you have to prove your worthiness.

We can spend our whole life trying to prove that we are someone important or of value.  I think thats all a waste of time.

This world always looks to our outward appearance, our cars, our houses, our money but  when you see with the eyes of truth you will see that what matters is our heart because that is what matters to our Father in heaven.

So with faith you can do anything, you will know without a doubt that you can accomplish what you set your heart on.

You may say "this is great, but I don't have faith, I don't believe in myself nor do I feel adequate enough to ever make a positive change."

I want to say to you that it is ok because faith can be increased.  You can grow in faith but you can not manufacture it, or create it.

I believe this here sums it up.

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. ." Romans 10:17

Now don't get all religious on me and tell me the only way this works is if you read the bible.  Yes that is one way to grow in faith but God is a God that is everywhere and in everything.  You might hear a testimony about a person that made the lifestyle change and lost 50lbs.  And when this person tells you how she did it, automatically hope begins to rise in your heart because you know you can do it to.  Because she spoke truth into your life, and you received it, your faith has now been increased.  You begin to believe with confidence that it is also possible for you to achieve your dreams.

Faith is an integral part of a successful life.  You can be sure that it will be tested.  Trust me when I say, you won't always feel full of confidence when pursuing your dreams and goals. Your faith is tested so that you may grow in perseverance.

What matters is that we have the self awareness to identify those things that are hindering us and apply truth to that the lie.

It is a scientific fact that no two thoughts can occupy the mind at one single moment. It is impossible to feel full of faith and depressed at the same time.  You cannot be hopeful and helpless at the same time either.  Nor can you be invigorated and apathetic in that moment.

So when you find yourself feeling the negative side of coin, ask yourself "what do I have to believe in order for this to be true?"

You will usually find that what your believing is just a big fat lie.

Face it, correct it, and MOVE ON.

Let me explain,  lets use my favorite example of fitness.  If you want to lose 50 lbs you may be overwhelmed and feel apathy when thinking about changing.  In that moment, your belief would have to be one of hopelessness and helplessness.  You would have to believe that it is way to hard to ever change.  You may sincerely believe that no matter what you do, you will always be fat.

See, it all starts with what we believe.  So if these are your dominant thoughts, you will truly be enslaved.

You must find the truth about who you are and the potential that lies within your grasp.  The truth is you are a son and daughter of God (1st John 3 v1)  and that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Phillipians 4:13).  You were made to persevere and overcome, you were made with a destiny and purpose.  Part of your destiny is to live healthy, strong, and prosperous.

So be encouraged if you are currently feeling beat down by life.  Maybe you feel like you don't have the faith that can move mountains, that is perfectly ok because you don't need it.

He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." Matthew 17:20

Just a lithe bit of truth every day and you will surely keep the doctor away. :)

So make a point today to grow in faith and watch how your life changes.

Heres a quick way to test if you are currently operating out of faith.  If you feel like your actions are motivated by fear and worry then your probably not in faith.  If you feel like your work is a striving thing and it does not come naturally, your probably not in faith.  If your working to prove that you are a somebody then check yourself. :)  If you feel like you are consistently feeling the strain of life and are always pushing your way into the future then beware.

Now lets take a peek at what it looks and feels like to operate out of faith.  First of all, your work won't feel like work at all.  Yes it will be a rigorous and intense work because nothing gets done without work.  But because you are in faith, you are following your passion in life and it just feels natural.  There is no worry that your efforts will fail because you know without a doubt your outcome will be produced.  You are always giving because you are filled up with every good thing.  You feel pulled into the future by destiny instead of forcing things to happen.  You wake up most mornings full of hope and excitement.  If your not invigorated with work, you are at peace and rest about your life no matter the circumstances.

That is FAITH right there!

Leave me a comment.   I would LOVE to hear what you think.
