3 Keys To Unlocking Happiness

Do you wake up in the morning with a feeling of expectation or do you greet the rising sun with a sigh and say "Oh yay! Another day!" sarcastically of course...

Are you dominated by stress and an overwhelmed sense of powerlessness?  Do you feel that there is no hope in your life or that nothing will ever change?

Is your daily life filled with an outlook of despair and negativity?

Well... If you can answer yes to any of these questions at one point in your life then congratulations... Your human!

Most of us live our days on autopilot, living from a reactive state.  We let our circumstances dictate to us how we are going to live.  "Im not wealthy, so I can't be happy."  "This economy is so bad, I just can't make any money"  "It is to hard to lose weight, Im just not motivated"  "I was just born this way"  "Maybe if I had a good boyfriend in my life I could be better."

I could go on for days but you get my point.

Now most of us would deny that we talk like this.  But the truth is that we really aren't aware of this "chatter" going on inside of us.

This is because all this stuff is going on within our subconscious mind.  Did you know the subconscious mind is responsible for 70% of your personality, behaviors, actions, and speech?

If we comprehend this and understand the implications of this, I believe we would focus more of our attention on creating a healthier subconscious mind.  Wouldn't you agree?

Thats what this blog is all about, to facilitate the creation of healthy souls, minds, and bodies.  Its about creating true happiness.

So let me tell you that there is a way of living that allows happiness to dominate your life. No its not a hippie attitude of "it will all just be ok." It is having a mindset of complete joy when the world says you should be depressed.   It is having eyes that see beyond the surface.  It is knowing who you are and why you are here on this earth.  It is a life filled with purpose and passion. It is a life lived with zeal because you know you have a mission to accomplish.  It is knowing that the rewards are always worth the pain needed to get there.

Its called FREEDOM.

As for me, this is how I came to live my life in freedom.

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." 2 corinthians 3:17

Am I saying that I just live a peachy old life with no problems?  Far from it... I just approach them differently.

Ill look for the good in everything because I know without a shadow of a doubt that there is something good that comes out of every situation.

So here are three ways to help you on your journey to freedom.  Freedom to live in joy, peace, love, success, and fulfillment.

1. Spend an hour each day reading.

- I love reading.  It allows us the ability to attain wisdom from somebody else's  life.  It actually prevents us from making stupid mistakes.  Better yet, it gives us a blueprint for success in life.  Because if you want to achieve something, there is guaranteed to be someone that has accomplished it already.  Why reinvent the wheel?  Just knowing that there is someone out there with an answer will give you hope.  So read biographies, inspirational books, and THE BIBLE which is the greatest book ever.  I especially love proverbs, that book alone will give you wisdom beyond any "success guru" can give you.

"Plans fail for the lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." Proverbs 15:22

Reading a book is just like having that person as your adviser.  You can dive into their life  and experiences as if they are right there with you, helping you in every situation.  The more books the better!  Be HUNGRY for wisdom and knowledge.  Once you start, I promise you will just get hungrier and hungrier.  I know this to be fact because I used to HATE reading.

Doesn't that sound great?  Just learn from somebody else's mistakes, it will save you a lifetime of trouble and heartache.

Your ways of thinking will be expanded, your imagination will be stretched, and your life will just be BETTER. :)

2.  Know who you are

- I am convinced that the battle of life is within us, specifically with our identity.

When we are asked who we are?  We immediately begin describing what we do for a living.

Many of us derive our identities from cars, our careers, our business, our ministry, our friends, and our money.  The challenge is always knowing yourself.  So if we know ourselves on a level that only goes surface deep, we live on an unstable foundation.

Because if my identity is found in my career and I lose that career, what now? When we live this way, we have a confidence that can be crushed by at any moment.

Wouldn't you agree that this world is ever changing and nothing is guaranteed anymore?  So why would you put your identity in something that can change?

It is safe to say that we should place our identity in something or someone that never changes.

I don't know if you knew, but you are actually a son and daughter of the Most High God. Its time to start seeing yourself as your creator sees you.

The truth is YOU are a unique expression of God's glory.  You have something special that NO ONE else in this world has to offer.  You have a treasure inside of you that is so beautiful that when its realized, life begins to spring forth.

You become an overflow of goodness.   No longer do you care about people pleasing.  You understand that you are completely different so its ok if what you say and do is not like everyone else.  As a matter of fact, you thrive on being different.  You get to a place of comfort within your own skin.  You also start surprising yourself with your new found abilities and talents.  You understand that these gems have been within you the whole time buried in darkness and doubt. How can you find your treasure? Well, it first takes changing the way you think.  The way you think about life about God, about Jesus Christ, about yourself... It goes on and on.

Many of us have been damaged by religious teachings that God is going to judge you if you mess up.  So we naturally stray from Him.  The truth is that He sent is only son to die for you so that you may have eternal life. (John 3:16)

That eternal life also starts here on earth...

In the words of Jesus:

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10

No matter where you are in life, it is only the goodness of the Lord that can change the heart of a person.  Not judgement, not criticism, not hatred, not threats, not fear of going to hell, NOTHING but the GOODNESS of the Lord.

What is his goodness you say?  Its that peace that surpasses all understanding and the joy that gives you strength.  Which leads me to number 3...

3.  Chose to do everything with JOY.

Joy is a powerful force, it is a weapon that destroys hatred and animosity.  It is the cure for sadness and depression.  It is MY STRENGTH.

The good word says in Nehemiah 8:

Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

I love this one:

"Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes in the morning."  Psalms 30:5

No matter what tragedy, hardship, or failures you have endured, just know that your time is coming, your joy is coming, your strength is near.

When we look at our daily activities and seek the joy in each activity then our whole perspective shifts.  Instead of thinking "Man, I gotta go to work today, this sucks."  How about, "I get to go to work today and be the cause, and not the effect. I am going to bring life to the environment with kindness and compassion.  I am the reason why this company succeeds."

Quite a difference huh? :)

But you may say, "My boss is an a$$! I can't be nice to him."  That is once again being the effect of someone treating you badly.  Of course it is not easy, bot none one said it would be.  But the reward far surpasses the pain of returning rudeness with kindness.

"A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare." Proverbs 15:1

You never know what will happen when you show kindness to those who don't deserve it.  When people are rude or disrespectful, you always have a CHOICE.  Of course you will feel hurt and angry.  You may want to bight their head off and show them who's boss.  Trust me I know the feeling.  BUT, you have a choice to respond in love, and when you do, you will deflect that burning sensation of anger that rises within us, thus allowing your joy to dominate your heart and mind.

So does that mean you should just be passive and timid and let people walk all over you?  ABSOLUTELY NOT!  It just means that you chose your battles. Save your energy for resolving conflicts with people that matter to you, not that person that cuts you off on the freeway. :)

All in all, I believe life is about continually growing and evolving into greater measures of faith and glory.  We are all designed with a purpose, but if you have no desire to learn what that is then you will die and take your treasure you.

I don't know about you, but I am determined to utilize this treasure that God placed within me to live this life to the fullest.

I chose to live a life of continual transformation, join me if you like.

You are not hear to just live a mediocre life.  The creator of the Heavens and Earth has built you to live in FREEDOM, LOVE, PURPOSE, PROSPERITY, POWER, and PEACE.

I hope these few tips will help you gain some focus in your day to day life.  I am confident that if you chose to do these things, your life will change forever.  I know because it has changed mine.

So be strong this week and may the favor be with you. :)
